Front board attached but loose. The fool's errand was the attempt to rebuild the South after the Civil War in the image of the North. Tourgee discusses such groups as the new Klu Klux Klan in the passages of social history interwoven with the story of a Union solier who moves to s Southern plantation after the war. The novel is semi-autobiographical.
