John [Johann] Stolle who arrived in Charleston in the 1880's [originally from Dresden, Germany] to restore paintings at Chareston City Hall. Painting by Stolle in regional Charleston area collections date from 1883 - 1907. This info provided by Angela D. Mack [Curator of Collections] Gibbes Museum of Art - Charleston, S.C.The canvas back is stamped "From Jos. W. Harrisson's Artist Supply Paint & Oil Store..Meetings Charleston, S. Carolina." Family history indicates that she summered in Lakeview North Carolina and that she may have lived in Charleston S.C. or New York. Jpg's of the signature are on view.
